The death of Yaqub Leith Safari
Yaqub Leith's illness and the end of his life / After overcoming his opponents, Yaqub took over the government of Sistan and destroyed the Taherian government in Khorasan. At the end of his rule, he fought with the trusted Abbasid caliph.(Caliph offered Yakub the rule of Khorasan, Tabarstan, Gorgan, Ray, and Fars, but Yakub refused and sent a message to Caliph that he would not be satisfied with anything except reaching Baghdad.) And after capturing Khuzestan in a place called Deir al-Aqul(between Basra and Baghdad)He camped, but the Caliph cut off the water to Yaqoob's army. Because Yaqoob's camp was in a low place, the army was defeated, and Yaqoob retreated and fell ill in Jandi Shapur.. When Yaqub was ill, the Abbasid caliph sent a messenger to him to negotiate peace with him. When Yaqub heard the caliph's message, he ordered a sword, bread and onions to be brought to him, then he turned to the caliph's messenger and said; Tell your master, if I get up from this bed, this sword will rule between you and me, and if I win, I will strike your neck with this sword, and if I lose, I am nothing more than an old man, this bread and onion, which is my constant food, is enough for me. And I am content with that. The Caliph's envoy left Yaqoob, but Yaqoob's colic disease worsened and he died on Saturday 265 AH..
