The story is free – Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar
When Nasser al-Din Shah brought the telegraph machine to Iran and the first telegraph office was opened in Tehran, people were distrustful of this new machine.. For this reason, Sultan Sahebqaran allowed people to send their messages to other cities for free for a while..
The Telegraph Minister had argued that the Iranians had a proverb to say “Be free, be kuft”. That is, whatever is free, people will welcome it. So it was.
Little by little, and scared, people went to the telegraph office to send their messages. The government of the time spent a few days like this, and when the telegraph office was closed and no one connected the telegraph office to magic, Mokhbar al-Dawla ordered that it be written on the entrance of the telegraph office.:
“From today, free speech will not be accepted.”
